Today my wife and I took a trip in the Jabiru J160 from Ballarat to Barwon Heads where we met up with some mates from another forum (straight and level downunder.net) and then on to Tooradin to meet up for a fly-in/meet up for lunch. Here are some of the many pictures that we took today - thanks to Kerry (my wife) mainly... Departing Ballarat at around 1042 - a little late due to a flat battery issue: Arriving Geelong: Heading for Barwon heads from Geelong @ 1500ft: Downwind for RWY 35 Barwon Heads: Final RWY 35 Barwon Heads: After meeting up with friends Terry and Chris, Mitchel and having a bit of a gossip....we departed for Tooradin....departing Barwon Heads RWY 35: Overhead Barwon Heads Airfield setting course for Tooradin via French Island: Some of the scenery along the way: Terry, Chris And Mitchel in their C172 lining up on final RWY 04 Tooradin below: Tooradin Airfield: Terry, Chris and Mitchel landing below in their C172: Kerry and I landing RWY 04 Tooradin: All the gang: The Restaurant at Tooradin (fantastic food!): It was quite hazy on the way home to Ballarat due to a lot of burning off in Victoria....but here are a few of the shots we took going home - Tooradin to Ballarat: Moorabin Airport: Luna Park at St Kilda: Melbourne City: Bacchus Marsh airfield: Arriving back at Ballarat landing on RWY 18: The weather was absolutely perfect, the air as smooth as silk the whole way. Total Time - 2.6 hours Best seafood lunch ever, and great company. The best Straight & Level Down Under fly-in to date! Cant wait for the next one...
We are planning our next fly-in/meet up at Mansfield soon.... It would be good to get some more members together for that one I know K will be there :]
Yup, it really was a good day - one of the best! The restaurant there at Tooradin Airport is absolutely world class - great service and superb food! I had a seafood platter for 'one' but in reality it was enough for two! I was very impressed... I wish there were more airfields with restaurants on the field. Does anyone know of any good ones?
